The International Center for Creativity and Sustainable Development under the Auspices of UNESCO (Category 2) was approved at the 38th session of UNESCO General Assembly in November 2015. In 2017, the People’s Government of Beijing Municipality signed the agreement with UNESCO. ICCSD becomes the world's first UNESCO Category 2 center with the theme of "creativity and sustainable development". With the support and guidance of UNESCO, the Center intends to build the world’s high-level international platform that aims at creativity and sustainable development, and includes the functions of research, training ,cooperation, communication, demonstration etc. The Center shall become a first-class think-tank gathering talents throughout the world, building a global renowned “laboratory of thoughts” with a focus on creativity and innovation. It shall promote cultural exchanges and cooperation, disseminate and support Chinese enterprises, technology and culture.

What We Do

Research
To carry out interdisciplinary researches, analyses and reports regarding creative economy, cultural and creative industries and creative cities related to sustainable development, which can contribute to national and local decision-makers worldwide.
Information
To develop communication platforms (publications, website and social media, etc) in order to promote creativity, cultural and creative expressions and sustainable development.
Capacity Building
To carry out education and training in different ways such as online and practical training courses for entrepreneurship, small and micro enterprises, etc, and to provide assistance to improve working skills particularly for women and youth in developing countries.
Demonstration
To undertake pilot operational projects such as capacity-building, policy development, etc, in order to put research findings into practice.
Cooperation
To seek cooperation among culture and sustainable development, creative industry and creative city network, and to set up global creative cooperation network.

Governing Board

As a policy-making body and supervisory-body, the Governing Board shall consider relevant work. The Governing Board will include representatives from UNESCO, relevant government ministries, agencies in China and member states of UNESCO.

The Advisory Committee

The Advisory Committee principally serves as the academic, strategic and professional advisory body to provide input and guidance to the Governing Board and the Director of ICCSD.

The first Advisory Committee of the Center was established in April 2019. The committee includes 30 members from 14 countries who come from international organizations, research institutes, social organizations and private companies and their majors are creativity economy, urban development, industrial planning, artificial intelligence, network technology, sustainable development or communication, etc. Mr. Hans d’Orville, the former Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning of UNESCO was appointed as the chairman of ICCSD Advisory Committee.

April 2019

ICCSD held its first meeting of the first Advisory Committee, appointing Mr. Hans d’Orville, the former Assistant Director-General for Strategic Planning of UNESCO, as the chairman of the Advisory Committee.

July 2018

Mr. Chen Jining, mayor of Beijing and Madame Audrey Azoulay, Director General of UNESCO witnessed the launch of the Center.

January 2018

ICCSD held its first meeting of the first Governing Board, approved ICCSD’s Charter and the Strategic Plan during the meeting.

September 27.2017

ICCSD convened the Creativity 2030 Summit Forum in Beijing.

June 2016

In the opening ceremony of UNESCO Creative Cities Beijing Summit, Madame Irina Bokova, the (former) Director-General of UNESCO awarded the certificate of the ICCSD.

November 2015

The 38th session of UNESCO General Assembly passed the resolution to set up the International Center for Creativity and Sustainable Development at Beijing, China.

April 2015

The People’s Government of Beijing Municipality applied the reports to UNESCO for setting up the International Center for Creativity and Sustainable Development (ICCSD)
